Zakynthos

Our newest destination, Zakynthos, is known for its stunning sandy beaches and clear blue waters. The island is part of the Ionian archipelago and is located off the Greek mainland, also known as Zante. Zakynthos is the third largest island in the group, after Corfu and Kefalonia. The island of Kefalonia is only about 40 km away. Temperatures from September to October are pleasant in the upper 20s and, best of all, the sea water temperature is ideal for swimming.

Zakynthos offers holidaymakers the chance to admire miles of sandy beaches with stunning coves. Caretta caretta turtles nest on the island’s beaches and have become the island’s mascot, with volunteers on the island happy to share information about their conservation. Laganás Bay is dedicated to the Marine National Park. A boat trip to Zakynthos is a must and you can explore the island from the sea. In the capital, Zante, you can get into the city atmosphere by walking through its narrow alleys. The best shopping is also to be found there. The city’s central square is named after the Greek poet Dionysios Solomos. The world famous attraction is the Navagio pier.

There are several holiday villages on the island, where our hotel is located. From these, everyone can choose the one they prefer. Kalamaki and Argassi are slightly smaller and quieter villages, while Laganas and Tsilivi are busier and offer more facilities such as shops and restaurants. Argassi does not have a long sandy beach, but small coves. However, there are some great beaches nearby.

The Navagio shipwreck is a world-famous attraction and place, also known as a smugglers’ cove. This beach is often featured in Zakynthos tours. There, hidden by high cliffs, is a small beach on which stands a rusty shipwreck. A boat trip will take you to this attraction. (You may not be able to walk to the beach.)

The Blue Caves are also a stunningly beautiful attraction, located in the northern part of the island. The caves are limestone formations that reflect a stunning blue light when the sun hits the water.

The Milanio Maritime Museum is located in the village of Tsilivi. The museum offers history lovers a journey through the history of Greek shipping from different periods such as antiquity or the Second World War.

Venetian fortress, the island belonged to Venice from 1482 to 1797, a fortress from that period is located above the town of Zante.

The island has an efficient bus network between the capital and the larger villages. Taxis are available either on the fly or on request. Taxis have fixed fares. Our guides will help with car hire if needed. This is a great way to get to know the island. Boat trips are very popular and our guides will give you information about them too. There is a daily ferry service to the island of Kefalonia and the Peloponnese.

The holiday villages have smaller shops and souvenir shops. The best shopping, however, is in Zante, the island’s capital, where you’ll find boutiques selling designer clothes, as well as shoe and jewellery shops. Larger supermarkets are located outside the town. Popular souvenirs include Greek handicrafts, olive oil, honey and products supporting turtle conservation.

The resorts have a lively evening and nightlife, with Laganas in particular being known as a hub of nightlife. All the villages also have restaurants to suit all tastes, from fast food outlets to restaurants specialising in Greek delicacies.

Kalamaki is located just a few kilometres from the airport. A peaceful, small holiday village in a rural landscape. Several hotels are a short walk from the sandy beach.

Laganas is a good choice if you are looking for a livelier evening and nightlife. The airport is only about 4 km away. Kalamaki can be reached comfortably on foot, even along the beach.

Tsilivi is a livelier holiday village north of the town of Zante. Here all services are within walking distance. There is also a water park in the village.

Argassi is a quiet holiday village south of the town of Zante, about 3 km from Zante.

Keri is a quiet village in the south of the island, known for its whitewashed houses. In Keri, we have an adults-only hotel to choose from.
